If you’re struggling with stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise, you’re not alone. Liposuction is a proven body contouring procedure that targets these persistent areas, helping you achieve a smoother, more sculpted silhouette. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates in Washington, DC, our board-certified plastic surgeons use advanced liposuction techniques to deliver precise, natural-looking results tailored to your unique goals.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure designed to remove localized fat deposits and refine your body’s contours. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, we offer advanced options such as tumescent liposuction and laser-assisted liposuction, which allow for enhanced precision, less discomfort, and quicker recovery times. These state-of-the-art techniques make it possible to target specific areas and achieve a more balanced, harmonious shape.

Common Treatment Areas for Liposuction

Abdomen and Waist

The abdomen and waist are among the most popular areas for liposuction. Whether you’re looking to flatten your stomach or define your waistline, liposuction can help eliminate stubborn fat that resists even the most dedicated fitness routines. Our surgeons use meticulous techniques to sculpt a slimmer, more toned midsection.

Thighs

Liposuction can be performed on both the inner and outer thighs to create a more proportionate lower body. By removing excess fat, patients can enjoy smoother contours and improved confidence in shorts, skirts, and swimwear.

Arms

Many patients struggle with excess fat in the upper arms, which can be resistant to exercise. Liposuction can restore a toned, youthful appearance to the arms, making it easier to wear sleeveless styles with confidence.

Back and Bra Bulge

Fat rolls along the back and around the bra line can be difficult to address through diet and exercise alone. Liposuction in these areas helps smooth out bulges, resulting in a sleeker, more streamlined silhouette.

Chin and Neck

A double chin or fullness beneath the jawline can make you look older or heavier than you feel. Liposuction of the chin and neck area can define your jawline and create a more youthful, sculpted profile.

Hips and Love Handles

The hips and flanks, often referred to as “love handles,” are common trouble spots for both men and women. Liposuction effectively reduces excess fat in these areas, enhancing your natural curves and achieving a more balanced body contour.

Chest (for Men and Women)

For men, liposuction can be used to treat gynecomastia, or excess fat in the chest area, resulting in a more masculine contour. Women may also benefit from chest liposuction to achieve a flatter, more defined chest, and it can be used for small breast reductions in appropriate candidates.

How to Determine the Right Areas for Treatment

Every body is unique, which is why a personalized consultation at Cosmetic Surgery Associates is essential. During your visit, our surgeons will evaluate your goals, assess your anatomy, and recommend the areas that will benefit most from liposuction. Each procedure is customized to ensure natural-looking results that complement your overall shape.

Benefits of Liposuction

  • Precision Fat Removal: Liposuction targets specific areas of stubborn fat, allowing for enhanced body sculpting and definition.
  • Improved Confidence: Achieving a more toned appearance can boost your self-esteem and help you feel more comfortable in your own skin.
  • Long-Lasting Results: With a healthy lifestyle, the results of liposuction can be maintained for years to come.

What to Expect During and After Liposuction

Your journey begins with a detailed consultation and treatment plan tailored to your needs. The procedure itself is performed in our state-of-the-art surgical facility, with most patients able to return home the same day. Recovery is typically straightforward, with minimal downtime. Swelling and bruising will gradually subside over the following weeks, revealing your improved contours.

Undergoing significant weight loss is a commendable achievement, but it often leaves individuals with excess skin and tissues that can diminish the joy of reaching one’s weight goals. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates in Bethesda, MD, we believe in the empowering journey of refining your results through post-weight-loss surgery, enabling you to truly feel confident in your new body. In this post, we will explore key procedures and benefits, practical tips, and the transformative power of cosmetic surgery.

Body Contouring After Weight Loss: Procedures in Bethesda, MD

Tummy Tuck in Bethesda: Create a Flatter Stomach

The tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, tightens the abdominal muscles and removes excess skin and fat, creating a firmer and flatter stomach. This is especially beneficial for enhancing post-weight-loss changes where loose skin around the abdomen is common.

Comprehensive Results with a Body Lift

A body lift addresses multiple areas of the body, including the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs, providing comprehensive contouring. This procedure helps in smoothing and tightening large areas of sagging skin, offering a dramatic improvement in body shape.

Restore Youthful Contours with a Breast Lift

After massive weight loss, the breasts can lose their shape and firmness. A breast lift repositions the breasts, providing them with a youthful contour that can enhance your overall appearance.

Sculpted Results with a Thigh Lift

A thigh lift specifically targets sagging skin on the inner and outer thighs, sculpting a more toned appearance. This procedure is ideal for those who experience excess skin that makes daily activity uncomfortable.

Sleeker Arms with Brachioplasty

Also known as brachioplasty, an arm lift removes excess skin hanging from the upper arms, often dubbed “bat wings.” This surgery reshapes the arm for a sleeker profile, allowing you to wear sleeveless clothing confidently.

Facial Contouring Near Washington, D.C.

Significant weight loss can affect facial structure, causing skin laxity. Facial contouring helps restore a youthful appearance, targeting sagging cheeks, jowls, and neck areas.

Liposuction for Precision Contouring

Liposuction is a versatile procedure used to remove stubborn fat deposits unaffected by weight loss. It can be used alone or in conjunction with other surgeries to refine body contouring results further.

Preparing for Surgery

Preparation is key to a smooth surgery and recovery. Consult with our surgeons to discuss your goals and medical history. You will likely need to undergo lab testing, refrain from smoking, and avoid certain medications leading up to your procedure. Creating a recovery-friendly space at home and arranging for assistance during the initial healing period can significantly improve your experience.

Recovery Timeline

Recovery times vary per procedure but generally range from two weeks to a few months. Patients typically experience swelling and bruising, and it’s crucial to follow postoperative instructions for optimal healing. Recovery milestones often include returning to light activities within two weeks and resuming normal routines within a few months. You will gradually see your results develop and enjoy the confidence that comes with your new look.

Benefits of Post-Weight-Loss Cosmetic Surgery

Navigating post-weight loss can be challenging emotionally and physically. Beyond aesthetic improvement, the emotional benefits of these procedures include:

  • Increased self-esteem and confidence.
  • Improved comfort and mobility.
  • Enhanced quality of life and well-being.

These procedures are fully customized to address the areas most affected by your weight loss, ensuring a unique and personalized approach to care.

Liposuction remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, yet misconceptions about this body contouring technique persist. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates in Bethesda, Maryland, our board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Jabs, Dr. Magge, and Dr. Richards are committed to providing patients with accurate information to make informed decisions about their aesthetic goals. Let’s dive into some common myths surrounding liposuction and reveal the truth behind this transformative procedure.

Myth 1: Liposuction is a Weight Loss Solution

The Truth: Liposuction is not designed for weight loss. It’s a body sculpting procedure aimed at removing stubborn fat deposits that resist diet and exercise. Ideal candidates are already at or near their target weight, typically losing only 2-5 pounds from the procedure itself.

Myth 2: Diet and Exercise Can Achieve the Same Results

The Truth: While a healthy lifestyle is crucial, it can’t target specific fat deposits the way liposuction can. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, we often recommend liposuction to patients who have maintained a stable weight but struggle with localized fat pockets.

Myth 3: Fat Removed by Liposuction Will Return

The Truth: Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from treated areas. However, it’s important to note that remaining fat cells can still expand if a patient gains weight post-procedure. Our doctors at Cosmetic Surgery Associates emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle after liposuction for optimal, long-lasting results.

Myth 4: Liposuction and Tummy Tucks Are Interchangeable

The Truth: These are distinct procedures with different goals. Liposuction removes fat, while a tummy tuck addresses excess skin and muscle laxity. During your consultation at our Bethesda office, we can determine which procedure, or combination of procedures, will best meet your aesthetic goals.

Myth 5: Liposuction Tightens Loose Skin

The Truth: Liposuction primarily targets fat removal and does not significantly tighten skin. For patients with skin laxity concerns, our surgeons may recommend combining liposuction with skin tightening procedures for comprehensive results.

Myth 6: Liposuction Always Leaves Noticeable Scars

The Truth: Modern liposuction techniques, such as those employed by Dr. Jabs, Dr. Magge, and Dr. Richards, typically result in minimal scarring. Our surgeons use advanced techniques to ensure incisions are small and strategically placed for optimal healing and discretion.

Myth 7: Liposuction is Not Real Surgery

The Truth: While often performed as an outpatient procedure, liposuction is indeed surgery. It requires anesthesia and a recovery period. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, we provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative care to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the process.

Myth 8: Liposuction Removes Cellulite and Stretch Marks

The Truth: Liposuction is not designed to address cellulite or stretch marks. During your consultation at our Bethesda office, we can discuss alternative treatments that may be more effective for these concerns.

Myth 9: Liposuction is Only for Women

The Truth: Liposuction is popular among both men and women. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, we see patients of all genders seeking to refine their body contours through liposuction.

Your Path to a Sculpted Silhouette

Understanding the realities of liposuction is crucial for anyone considering the procedure. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates in Bethesda, Maryland, our experienced team of plastic surgeons is dedicated to providing personalized care and achieving natural-looking results.

If you’re considering liposuction or have questions about body contouring procedures, we invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Jabs, Dr. Magge, or Dr. Richards. Let us help you navigate your options and create a treatment plan tailored to your unique aesthetic goals.

The drive for a better sculpted physique is a popular aim for lots of patients who are considering body contouring surgery. Stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to caloric and cardio intervention may leave you frustrated and without the results you desire even with the best dieting and workout routines. When losing weight you may also lose fat in areas you wish to keep. Fortunately, advancements in cosmetic surgery offer options for both.

Liposuction: The Removal of Unwanted Fat.

Liposuction is a special type of surgery that helps to get rid of unwanted fat deposits from different areas of the body. Dr. Jabs, Dr. Richards, and Dr. Magge perform this minimally invasive approach for those whose weight is relatively normal, but who cannot reduce excess fat even after sticking to diet and exercise. Areas most frequently treated with liposuction are the abdomen, flanks, outer and inner thighs, arms, and back. In this process, the surgeon makes a small incision followed by placement of tumescent solution to decrease bleeding and increase safety followed by a a liposuction callnula (small tube) is placed. The cannula is moved around in a way that breaks up the fat under the skin and sucks it out. It may be augmented by the use of a power assisted component that vibrates the end of the cannula to remove fat more effectively with less overall trauma. The result is a more sculpted and smooth contour of the body.

Goals of Liposuction

As an option for fat removal and body contouring, liposuction carries many advantages and benefits. These include:

• Targeted Fat Removal: Without surgical intervention, removing specific areas of stubborn fat can be very difficult, liposuction offers a targeted approach to problem areas resulting in a more defined and streamlined figure.

• Improved Body Contours: Liposuction can remove undesired fat pockets thus helping to achieve more desirable body contours. Therefore, patients often get a more balanced look throughout the body.

• Minimally Invasive Procedure: Liposuction as a body contouring procedure is a minimally-invasive operating method that results in a shorter recovery time that surpasses the usual invasive surgeries.

  • Long-lasting Results: The results can be long-lasting if liposuction is followed up with a regular diet and exercise plan.

Fat Transfer: Establishing a Curvy Figure

Fat transfer, often referred to as fat grafting, involves harvesting the fat in one area of your body and then transferring it to areas of the body that are lacking in volume. Dr. Magge, Dr. Jabs, and Dr. Richards at Cosmetic Surgery Associates offer this procedure to patients seeking a natural-looking body contouring option that is durable enough to be used in areas like the face (cheeks, temples), breasts, buttocks, and hands. During a fat transfer procedure, fat cells are taken from one area like the abdomen, thighs, or flanks via liposuction, held in a sterile container and then transferred to the desired area.  The extracted fat undergoes a purification process to achieve the highest quality before being injected into the specified areas for volume recovery.

Advantages of Fat Transfer

Benefits and advantages of fat transfer include:

• Natural-looking Results: This technique utilizes your own fat allowing for the transferred fat injections to give more natural and long-lasting effects that settle well into the surrounding tissues.

• Dual Benefit: The fat transfer is considered a dual procedure since it achieves two goals at the same time, removing unwanted fat from one place on the body and adding volume to another place.

• Minimally Invasive: Both liposuction and fat transfer are minimally invasive procedures with minimal scarring and quicker healing times compared to traditional surgical techniques.

Your Options

Choosing between liposuction with or without fat transfer depends on your particular aim as well as your body type. Dr. Richards, Dr.Magge, and Dr. Jabs at Cosmetic Surgery Associates operate with a patient-centered attitude, putting your needs and desires at the forefront of your treatment. Factors like your expected results and areas that need improvement in terms of extra fat and loss of volume will determine the most appropriate procedure.

Schedule a Consultation

A customized approach is possible with an appointment at Cosmetic Surgery Associates in Bethesda, MD. During your consultation with Dr. Richards, Dr. Jabs, or Dr. Magge, you will be able to share your aesthetic goals, ask questions about both procedures and undergo a thorough examination to find the best treatment that will help you achieve your dream physique. Cosmetic surgery has become popular among men seeking to enhance their appearance. Over 1.3 million men in the U.S. are estimated to undergo or have undergone cosmetic procedures. Modern men are turning to these procedures to achieve a more youthful look and address specific aesthetic concerns. As a result, they regain their confidence and overall well-being.

Common Cosmetic Procedures for Men

There are many cosmetic surgeries for men. However, some are more sought after than others. The most popular ones include:

Gynecomastia Procedure

The term gynecomastia denotes the excessive growth of breasts in men. This excess tissue leaves men feeling self-conscious and lowers their self-esteem. Common causes of gynecomastia include hormonal imbalance, weight gain, and genetics. Although losing weight and rebalancing hormones solves this issue, those with persistent breast tissue will benefit from this cosmetic procedure. Male breast reduction will give the patient a more contoured and leaner chest, restoring their intended look and confidence.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is also known as abdominoplasty. This cosmetic surgical procedure helps men achieve a firmer, more toned abdominal profile. Abdominoplasty addresses excess skin and fat in the abdominal area resulting from significant weight loss, aging, or genetic predisposition. Tummy tucks remove excess skin and fat and tighten abdominal muscles to create a more sculpted appearance. Many men opt for this procedure to regain a more youthful and athletic physique.

Liposuction

Liposuction removes stubborn fat pockets from specific body areas. It involves the targeted suctioning of excess fat deposits through a small tube. As a result, it gives you a more defined and proportionate physique. Men often seek liposuction to address areas that resist diet and exercise. These include the abdomen, flanks, chest, and love handles. This procedure is not a weight loss solution. It enhances body contours and gives men a more refined appearance.

Blepharoplasty Cosmetic Procedure

Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, addresses issues related to the eyelids. It aims to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes. This surgery corrects under-eye bags, excess skin, and fat. After the surgery, you’ll get a refreshed and less tired appearance.

Botox® Procedure

Botox® is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure involving the injection of a purified botulinum toxin. The injection temporarily reduces the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines. This treatment targets specific muscles around the forehead, around the eyes, and between the eyebrows. It creates a smoother and more youthful facial appearance.

Schedule a Consultation

Cosmetic surgery for men offers an array of procedures that enhance their appearance and boost self-confidence. Remember, it’s essential to approach cosmetic surgery with realistic expectations. Always prioritize your health and consult with Dr. Magge, Dr. Jabs, or Dr. Richards at Cosmetic Surgery Associates in Bethesda, Maryland. Our doctors will help you make informed decisions about cosmetic procedures.

Take the first step towards achieving your aesthetic goals by scheduling your consultation by filling out our contact form. You can also call us at (301) 463-7943. We look forward to assisting you on your journey to a more confident and rejuvenated future.

Liposuction has gained immense popularity for its ability to remove stubborn body fat and help individuals achieve their desired body contours. A common concern that many people have is whether the fat can come back after undergoing liposuction. We aim to examine the science behind liposuction and the strategies for maintaining well-defined body contours.

Understanding Liposuction

Liposuction, recognized as lipoplasty, liposculpture, or “lipo,” is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits from specific body areas, particularly those unresponsive to traditional diet and exercise regimens. The primary objective is to refine body proportions and contours by targeting localized fat accumulations. While the results are long-lasting, their maintenance hinges on adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent the expansion of remaining fat cells.

At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, plastic surgeons utilize the tumescent liposuction technique, in which fluid is first put into the area to help shrink blood vessels and numb the area before using the liposuction device. This decreases bruising after surgery and helps soften and loosen the fat cells preceding suction. Suction-assisted liposuction then manually extracts the patient’s fat with a small hollow tube attached to pressurized vacuum equipment. The tube is inserted through small incisions in the desired areas to allow for the most precise contouring.

Patients may have liposuction on their chin, abdomen, back, arms, waist, hips, stomach, buttocks, thighs and knees. In some cases, complementing procedures are performed together to achieve greater contouring results. Clients can also discuss with their surgeon whether they want complementary procedures, including a mommy makeover or a tummy tuck.

Dispelling the Myth

Can fat cells return after liposuction? The answer is no. Fat cells behave by expanding or shrinking in size in response to weight fluctuations. Liposuction involves suctioning out excess fat cells, resulting in long-lasting body contours. Once fat cells are extracted, they do not regenerate, ensuring a lasting outcome. However, it is essential to maintain a health-conscious lifestyle to prevent the enlargement of residual fat cells and the compromise of the achieved sculpted appearance.

Permanent Results

Once fat cells are removed from a specific area, they do not regenerate. This means that the fat suctioned out during liposuction will not return. However, it’s essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle to ensure that remaining fat cells in other areas do not expand, compromising the results achieved through liposuction.

Maintaining Results

Following liposuction, patients are advised to adhere to a well-rounded diet and regular physical activity to uphold their newly acquired contours. Weight gain can lead to the enlargement of residual fat cells, both in treated and untreated areas, potentially compromising the overall outcome of the procedure.

Liposuction Yields Permanent Results

Liposuction performed by skilled surgeons provides permanent results. Once fat cells are removed, they do not regenerate in the treated area. It is essential to adopt a healthy lifestyle to maintain the sculpted contours achieved through liposuction.  You can be confident in achieving the best possible outcome. You will no longer have stubborn fat and will be able to embrace your transformed self.

Choose an Experienced Surgeon

All of our experienced surgeons specialize in the art and science of plastic surgery and look forward to taking the next step toward confidence with you. Dr.’s Richards, Jabs, and Magge are all board-certified plastic surgeons and are highly skilled in a variety of procedures.

If you are interested in learning more about liposuction or would like to see if you are a good candidate for the procedure, contact Cosmetic Surgery Associates located in Bethesda, Maryland, for a consultation.

What is Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is a procedure also known as fat grafting. During fat transfer, your plastic surgeon transfers fat from one part of the body to another with the goal of improving or augmenting one area of the body with fat. It involves liposuction to extract adipose tissue and then process it. Later, after purification, it’s injected into the area where improvement is wanted.

Fat transfer has been around since the 1990s and is used to treat areas such as the breasts, buttocks, face, hips, feet, and hands.

How Popular is Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer has increased in demand over the years since 2016. The most common procedures, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery are the following:

  • Breast fat transfer with more than 25,000 procedures performed
  • Face fat transfer with more than 56,093 procedures performed
  • Buttocks fat transfer with more than 19,019 procedures performed

The Most Common Areas for Fat Transfer

The biggest reason to have fat transfer is to fill out an area of the body that needs enhancing. The most commonly treated areas include the following:

  • Breasts: Fat transfer breast augmentation can have a modest increase in breast size. It’s important for the breasts to be in good shape and tone first. Sagging cannot be addressed with fat transfer. Some women get fat transfer breast augmentation after undergoing breast cancer treatment.
  • Buttocks: Fat transfer for buttocks is more subtle than butt augmentation with implants, which offers more dramatic results.
  • Face: Fat transfer for the face can reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, smile lines, and laugh lines. It can give more youthful volume to the cheek’s.
  • Hands: Fat transfer for the hands can add volume and make your hands look more youthful, reducing the look of ropey veins and tendons.
  • Acne scars: If you have scarring or depressions from areas that previously had acne, fat transfer can correct and fill in ice pick scars.

What to Expect After Fat Transfer

After fat transfer, there’s a small recovery period, but you can generally return to your regular routine after a few days. You’ll experience some redness, bruising, tenderness, and swelling in the treated area, which is normal. You may also have some scarring in the area where you had liposuction, but scars are small and easily concealed. Over time, they should fade.

How long your results last depends on various factors, like living a healthy lifestyle and preventing weight fluctuations. Make sure to follow your plastic surgeon’s instructions carefully and come in for a follow-up when necessary.

Are you unhappy with the way your tummy looks? It may be that you’ve just lost a large amount of weight but still have pockets of excess abdominal fat. Drastic weight loss and pregnancy can also leave you with loose and sagging abdominal skin that makes it difficult to truly appreciate your trimmer physique. Are you ready to reshape, refine, and smooth out your midsection? At Cosmetic Surgery Associates in Bethesda, MD, we provide both tummy tucks (abdominoplasty) and liposuction.

Each of these procedures produces excellent results. But which one is best for you?

Liposuction Is Less Invasive Than a Tummy Tuck

Liposuction may be the right procedure if you’re looking to eliminate excess fat around the abdominal region and refine your body when you do not have loose skin. Liposuction is great for eliminating stubborn fat deposits with a single treatment. In addition to being an effective way to get rid of unwanted fat at the abdomen, this surgery can also be used to trim and refine the hips, flanks, arms, thighs, and other areas. One thing to note, however, is that although liposuction empties the skin by eliminating unwanted fat stores, it is not a skin tightening treatment.

While liposuction is less invasive than a tummy tuck, it is still a surgical procedure and therefore requires a period of recovery. Compared to abdominoplasty recoveries, however, a liposuction recovery is significantly shorter and much easier overall. Many of our patients feel better within just a matter of a week, and most are able to return to work or their other normal activities within days. After three weeks, much of the resulting bruising and swelling will have abated.  However, it does take a year to see final results. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, our doctors all take the recovery process quite seriously. We understand that a good recovery is essential for ensuring an optimum outcome. That’s why we’re always available to offer the guidance and support that patients require, and to monitor their improvements throughout the entire healing process.

Abdominoplasty Can Eliminate Both Unwanted Fat and Excess Skin

The fat removal provided by liposuction can be sufficient for helping some patients reach their cosmetic goals. Others, however, might need the benefit of excess skin removal. Abdominoplasty procedures are more invasive, but they are also able to address loose and sagging skin along with muscle laxity. These additional benefits are sometimes necessary for both those who’ve dropped considerable weight and those who have given birth. For people seeking cosmetic improvements in the abdominal area following bariatric surgery and pregnancy, liposuction and abdominoplasty may be recommended together.

Excess, unwanted skin and tissue can be excised from the lower and mid-abdomen with abdominoplasty. Tummy tucks additionally tighten lax muscles in the abdominal region so that the stomach can again lie flat. Following this procedure, patients will have scars that may extend from one hip to the other, but they will be placed very low, and be able to be hidden by a bikini and underwear.  Tummy tuck recovery times are longer than for liposuction alone, and generally a full two weeks is needed off from work.

People with strong core muscles tend to have the shortest recoveries. You’ll want to relax throughout the healing process by avoiding strenuous exercises and activities. However, it’s also important to remember that certain forms of gentle exercise can actually play a key role in expediting the natural healing process, and walking is encouraged starting the day after surgery. Full unrestricted exercise, including core workouts can be restarted after 6-8 weeks.  After approximately one year, scarring from an abdominoplasty procedure will have faded significantly. All remaining scars can be easily concealed with a strategically chosen bathing suit or other garment.

Having Abdominoplasty and Liposuction Performed Together

Both liposuction and abdominoplasty can be effective standalone treatments in many instances, but some patients opt to have both of these procedures performed together. We may recommend both procedures based upon your cosmetic concerns and your overall cosmetic goals. Liposuction can sculpt, refine, and reshape the abdomen and flanks, while abdominoplasty can address loose skin and loose muscles.

Schedule a consultation with us at Cosmetic Surgery Associates to talk about your aesthetic concerns and we’ll help you find the best treatment for your needs. Get in contact by calling or filling out an online form.

Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that aims to reshape different sections of the human body by removing excess fat through surgery. Often liposuction is combined with other surgical procedures like abdominoplasty to remove stubborn fat deposits. The procedure does not reduce weight and is solely for the purpose of removing fat in problem areas that do not respond to diet and exercise.

In Northern Virginia liposuction is also done for treatment of medical conditions like removal of benign fat tumors or lipomas, problem with body metabolism and excessive sweating. The most commonly treated areas for liposuction are abdomen, buttocks, legs, back and upper arms while some women also undergo liposuction on face and neck. Though a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Franklin D. Richards can carry out the procedure within a few hours itself this should not be done on people that are suffering from preexisting medical conditions like diabetes, lung disease and blood circulation diseases.

Types of liposuction

1. Tumescent liposuction – During this cosmetic surgery procedure local anesthesia is applied to the areas where tube is likely to be inserted. To remove the fatty tissue, solution combining lidocaine and epinephrine is injected into that area.

2. Ultrasound assisted liposuction – Ultrasound technique directs heat rays on the required fatty deposits to melt and remove them. This procedure is most suitable for removal of fat from abdomen, sides and back area in McLean, VA.

3. Laser assisted liposuction – Low energy laser rays are directed by skilled doctor at the fat deposits which are collected through a cannula and removed from the body.

Recovery & risks of liposuction

Most liposuction procedures are fairly risk free and do not require a long recovery periods so person can get back to work within a week or two. Plastic surgeon Dr. A. Dean Jabs may advice you to avoid exercise and take a couple of weeks off from work to recover from bruising, pain and swelling. The duration of recovery process takes a longer or shorter period depending on the number of liposuction procedures taken by patient at Bethesda, MD at one time.

Besides the usual risks of infection and bleeding some patients may not be able to tolerate the effects of anesthesia and can have dizziness or nausea after they recover. Patients are also advised to wear compression garments during the recovery phase for five to six weeks after the surgery when they out for work in Fairfax, VA which can hasten the healing process. Other common risks of liposuction are discolored skin and saggy skin which can be minimized with regular exercise and application of topical creams.
