Contrary to what the name suggests, you don’t necessarily have to be a mom to enjoy the benefits of a Mommy Makeover. This transformative suite of procedures is designed to address common areas of concern many individuals face, regardless of whether they’ve experienced childbirth. Whether you’re looking to restore your pre-baby body, combat the effects of aging, or enhance your natural contours, a Mommy Makeover can help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

A “Mommy Makeover” Isn’t Just for Moms

At Cosmetic Surgery Associates in Bethesda, Maryland, the renowned team, Dr. Keshav Magge, Dr. Jabs, and Dr. Richards, often have patients wondering if a mommy makeover is reserved specifically for mothers. This set of procedures is designed to enhance your physical appearance and increase your self-confidence – whether or not you are a mom.

What Exactly is a Mommy Makeover?

Virtually any woman who wants to improve her physique, particularly after significant weight loss, aging, or just due to natural bodily changes, may be a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover. The term “Mommy Makeover” is a catch-all phrase that describes a combination of procedures that can correct or improve several areas of the body at once, including the breasts, abdomen, and sometimes other areas as well. The combination may include a variety of procedures, such as a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, or liposuction.

Can Men Benefit from a Mommy Makeover?

While “Mommy Makeover” traditionally refers to a set of cosmetic procedures aimed at helping women restore their pre-pregnancy bodies, men can benefit from similar comprehensive body contouring procedures. Many of the techniques used in a Mommy Makeover, such as liposuction, tummy tucks, and fat transfer treatments, can be effectively tailored to address the aesthetic concerns of men.

These procedures can help men achieve a more toned and defined physique, especially if they have experienced significant weight loss or aging or want to enhance their body contours. By customizing the approach to fit male anatomy and aesthetic goals, these treatments can also significantly improve body shape and confidence for men.

With our state-of-the-art mommy makeover procedures and top-tier services, we can help you reclaim your body, your confidence, and your self-esteem.

Understating Mommy Makeovers

Being a mother is a blessing and a joy. However, the physical changes that accompany motherhood can sometimes dampen the spirit of even the most enthusiastic of mothers. A Mommy Makeover is a customizable plastic surgery technique that addresses the body changes caused by childbirth and helps women regain their self-confidence.

The Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

A Mommy Makeover procedure that carefully targets your specific needs can have numerous benefits:

  • Restores Pre-baby physique
  • Boosts confidence and self-esteem
  • Improves overall body contour

Mommy Makeover Options

Pregnancy and childbirth are beautiful experiences, but they often leave lasting changes in a woman’s body. Mommy makeover procedures offer a comprehensive solution to address these physical changes, helping women regain their pre-pregnancy confidence and appearance.

Breast Enhancement

One of the primary concerns for many mothers is changes in breast size and shape post-pregnancy and breastfeeding. Mommy makeover options often include breast augmentation, reduction, or lift procedures to restore volume, symmetry, and firmness to the breasts, achieving a more youthful contour.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

The abdominal area undergoes significant changes during pregnancy, resulting in stretched skin, weakened abdominal muscles, and stubborn fat deposits. A tummy tuck procedure removes excess skin, tightens the abdominal muscles, and eliminates pockets of fat, resulting in a flatter, firmer abdomen.

Liposuction

Even with diet and exercise, some stubborn fat may persist after childbirth. Liposuction is a common component of mommy makeover procedures. It targets localized fat deposits in areas such as the hips, thighs, and abdomen to achieve smoother contours and enhance overall body proportions.

Consultation and Customization

Every woman’s body is unique, and mommy makeover procedures should be tailored to address individual concerns and goals. A thorough consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is essential to discuss options, understand potential risks and benefits, and develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with each patient’s desires and expectations.

A mommy makeover is a cosmetic procedure designed to tighten the waistline, remove excess body fat, and perk up or enlarge breasts following childbirth. Many moms may choose to schedule a mommy makeover when they’re sure they’re done with childbearing, since the point of the procedure is to remove the signs pregnancy and breastfeeding may have left on the body. However, the question may come up, “Can I have kids after a mommy makeover?”

Mommy Makeovers and Conception

A mommy makeover will not have any impact on your ability to bear children in the future. If you decide that you want to get pregnant again, having a tummy tuck or liposuction in your medical history won’t prevent you from moving forward with that pregnancy, nor will it increase your risk of miscarriage.
Furthermore, if you intend to breastfeed following a mommy makeover, procedures like breast augmentations and lifts are unlikely to impact your ability to produce milk. Many women are able to go on to successfully breastfeed even after a mommy makeover or breast augmentation procedure.

How Future Pregnancy Can Impact Mommy Makeover Results

While a past mommy makeover may not influence your ability to get pregnant in the future, the pregnancy can have an impact on your physical appearance and results following the procedure.

Breast Tissue Changes

When you’re pregnant and nursing, your breast tissue can increase and expand, causing a change in the appearance of your breasts. Many women find that their breasts are larger during pregnancy or when nursing. That stretching can lead to sagging following childbirth or the end of the breastfeeding period. If you’ve elected to lift sagging breasts or to have a breast augmentation, you may need to further lift or tighten the breasts in order to go back to your post-makeover appearance.

Changes to the Belly and Abdomen

One of the biggest challenges many women face in adjusting to their appearance post-childbirth is stretched skin and separated abdominal muscles following pregnancy. If you’ve had a tummy tuck or abdominal muscle repair following one pregnancy, and you get pregnant again, your abdominal area may return to its former appearance, requiring further cosmetic procedures in order to return it to your desired appearance.

Planning the Right Time for a Mommy Makeover

You can choose to have a mommy makeover at any time in your fertility journey, whether you’re done having children or not. However, if you’re considering the best time for a mommy makeover, you may find that it’s more practical to move forward with the procedure when you do not intend to have further biological children. If you change your mind down the road or have an unexpected surprise, however, you can still return for future cosmetic procedures that will restore that post-mommy-makeover look.

Age is just a number, especially when reclaiming your body through a mommy makeover. But the question often arises – am I too old for a mommy makeover? The simple answer is there is always time to embark on this transformative journey. With the right preparation and professional guidance, age doesn’t define your eligibility for a makeover.

Understanding the Fundamentals of a Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is a tailored set of cosmetic procedures designed to improve a woman’s body after pregnancy or address signs of aging. It often encompasses a tummy tuck, breast augmentation and/or lift, and liposuction

Health Over Age: The Prerequisite for a Mommy Makeover

A primary consideration before cosmetic surgery is the individual’s health status. Regardless of age, a healthy woman with realistic expectations is the ideal candidate for a mommy makeover. Pre-existing health conditions and lifestyle habits, such as smoking, can significantly affect surgery outcomes and recovery. It’s not about the number of candles on your birthday cake but about your physical health and readiness for the procedures and recovery.

Personalizing Your Mommy Makeover

While age doesn’t restrict your eligibility for a mommy makeover, it might influence the procedures that best suit your needs. Younger patients might focus on improving the changes brought about by pregnancy, while older patients might want to target signs of aging. Your surgeon will take into account your specific goals, lifestyle, and health history to create a personalized plan that will help you achieve the desired results. From reshaping body contours to enhancing self-confidence, the mommy makeover is about improving your body, regardless of age.

Preparing for a Successful Mommy Makeover

Preparing for a mommy makeover involves more than just scheduling a surgery date. It includes having realistic expectations, understanding the recovery process, and taking steps to ensure optimal health before surgery. Pre existing medical conditions will be addressed and the appropriate labs ordered to asses you overall health. The right mental and physical preparation is essential to ensure a successful procedure and smooth recovery.

Whether you’re in your 30s or 60s, with a seasoned surgical team and comprehensive care, you can confidently take the first step toward your transformation.

Schedule A Consultation

In Bethesda, the talented team of surgeons at Cosmetic Surgery Associates (CSA) including Dr. JabsDr. Magge, and Dr. Richards, understand that each woman’s journey to reclaiming her body is unique. Mostly everyone has stretch marks. They are a type of scar on the skin and are referred to as “striae” by doctors. Stretch marks are caused by a tear on the deeper layer of the skin known as the dermis, usually due to an abrupt stretching of the skin’s tissue. When the collagen and elastin are affected, it results in a permanent scar once healed and becomes a stretch mark that can be seen.

Stretch marks are initially dark in color and usually red or purple when they first appear. They may be raised above the skin, itchy and slightly puffy. Over time, they can look better and appear flatter and paler in color.

Who Is at Risk for Stretch Marks?

Everyone can develop stretch marks, but some people are more likely to develop them than others. Elevated hormone levels such as those found in pregnant women or individuals who have a family history of stretch marks are most likely to have them. Teens often develop them as well as their bodies change and grow. People who weight train and those whose weight fluctuates are also likely to develop stretch marks. Even using certain medications that can cause the skin to become thinner, such as corticosteroids, can result in stretch marks.

How Can You Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

Just like any other type of scar on the body, stretch marks are permanent. However, scar massages can help to improve the appearance of stretch marks if they’re done early enough. A scar massage is done by applying pressure on the stretch mark or scar. Once a stretch mark or scar suddenly appears, the best thing to do is perform the massage at least once per day. It takes one year for the scar to become completely mature.

Limited research has been done on red stretch marks but it’s believed that hyaluronic acid and tretinoin are beneficial in improving their pigment. Vascular laser treatments can also improve the look of these stretch marks. However, in spite of these treatments, the stretch marks will never truly vanish.

Can Anything Be Done to Prevent Stretch Marks?

It might be possible to prevent stretch marks. One thing that may be able to help is to keep well hydrated. Another is to avoid gaining an excessive amount of weight, as rapid weight gain can damage and stretch the skin. Although research hasn’t discovered any products that can prevent stretch marks, the best things to do are to control the changes to your body and weight and keep your skin healthy.

Are There Any Surgical Options?

For stretch marks appearing on the lower abdomen following pregnancy, there is a procedure that can eliminate them. A tummy tuck involves removing the skin from below the belly button and tightening the upper skin and abdominal muscles. This procedure should only be performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon.

If you’re in Maryland and want to know about your options regarding stretch marks, contact Cosmetic Surgery Associates to schedule a consultation. Our team is dedicated to providing optimal care for our patients, and we will help you find the treatment that is right for you.

2020 has taken its toll on many of us. Perhaps the most significantly impacted population are mothers who have been taking care of households, work, online school, and other obligations. With all of these extra demands on their time, the concept of self-care and prioritizing their own health and wellness seems a little out of reach.

What about a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a series of surgical cosmetic procedures designed to shape and sculpt a woman’s body back to her pre-pregnancy shape. Customizable treatments enhance breast tissue, remove stubborn fat, and turn back the clock through the elimination of body sagging and fine lines + wrinkles on the face.

While many moms may feel guilty at the prospect of prioritizing their appearance, the reality is that better improved self-confidence means you regain some of that lost energy and vitality you can use to conquer your daily routine. As you begin to uncover your new self-confidence, you’ll feel better, achieve more, and become more efficient. Let’s walk through four benefits to having a mommy makeover together.

1. Your clothes will fit better

Liposuction is a regularly scheduled procedure as part of a mommy makeover; moms know that pregnancy can take a toll on the muscles of the abdomen and can leave unsightly fatty deposits behind that are hard to get rid of. Liposuction is a highly versatile procedure that can be performed nearly anywhere on the body, most commonly on the thighs, abdomen, hips, and upper arms. Upon completion of your liposuction procedure, you’ll find that your clothes will fit better, you’ll feel better, and you’ll have more confidence when choosing clothing that reflects your unique style. Abdominoplasty or (Tummy Tuck) can flatten the tummy by tightening the stretched muscles from pregnancy and remaining excess skin and fat.

2. Your breasts will retain a more youthful appearance

Breast enhancement is another common procedure that women choose to undergo when choosing their unique makeover package. Breastfeeding, weight gain, and weight loss can take their toll on breast tissue as well, leaving you with sagging breasts and a lack of fullness that contributes to self-consciousness. Having your breasts lifted and/or augmented will give you back a shapely, youthful physique.

3. You’ll be able to turn back the clock

While some women choose to focus on procedures that correct the body during a mommy makeover, some choose to also undergo plastic surgery to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the face. Plumping any hollowed regions with dermal filler, getting rid of excess facial and neck skin, and rejuvenating the areas around your eyes can take years off of your appearance. Come warmer weather, you’ll be able to hold your head high toward the sun knowing that you look your best.

4. You’ll experience psychological benefits

Something about looking your best enables you to feel more confident and perform better in all areas of life. After recovering from a mommy makeover, you’ll gain energy, increase your productivity, and experience more happiness as a result of uncovering your best-looking you. These benefits become self-perpetuating as you learn new techniques of self-care and invest in yourself and your appearance so you can then serve the ones you love more efficiently.

Many women are interested in regaining their pre-pregnancy figure usually when they have no foreseeable plans for another pregnancy. Specific areas of the body can be enhanced with independent cosmetic surgery procedures, but these may only have a limited impact on improving the overall appearance. Depending on the patient’s aesthetic needs and aspirations, the surgeon may recommend mommy makeover surgery.

A mommy makeover is a comprehensive procedure that can address multiple areas of the body and multiple issues such as excess fats, loose skin, and cellulite appearance in one go. Dr. Franklin Richards and Dr. Dean Jabs are board-certified plastic surgeons providing mommy makeovers through their offices in Bethesda MD and McLean VA.

Their practice, Cosmetic Surgery Associates, receives patients from Northern Virginia, Fairfax County, Alexandria, VA, Chevy Chase, Rockville, MD, and surrounding communities.

Candidacy

Women who give birth naturally and the ones who undergo a C-section may make equally good candidates to receive a mommy makeover cosmetic surgery. Women who are unhappy with the adverse aesthetic impacts resulting from pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding may consider this procedure if they are in general good health. Fat reduction, skin tightening, body lift, and reduction of cellulite, scars, and stretch marks are some of the benefits that a candidate may receive with a mommy makeover.

Cost of Procedure

The cost of a mommy makeover will typically vary from one patient to another, depending on their unique aesthetic needs. The surgery will include two or more procedures, which will be selected as a part of the surgical plan by the plastic surgeon in consultation with the patient.

The cost-effectiveness of this procedure is high in comparison to individual procedures. Cosmetic Surgery Associates provides mommy makeovers and other procedures to patients in Northern Virginia, Fairfax County, Alexandria, VA, Chevy Chase, Rockville, MD, and nearby locations.

Key Procedures

A mommy makeover will be customized to suit the specific aesthetic goals of the patient. The procedure may include one or more of the following surgeries:

Breast Augmentation
Breast Lift
Breast Reduction
Liposuction
Tummy Tuck
• Body Lift
• Body Contouring
• Cellulite Reduction
• Stretch Mark Removal
• Non-invasive procedures

If the woman has suffered the loss of breast volume following pregnancy or breastfeeding, the surgeon may include breast implant surgery. In case of heavily sagging breasts, a breast lift may be included. Some women may accumulate excessive fat deposits in the breast area, requiring a breast reduction procedure. One of the most popular procedures that is a part of mommy makeovers is liposuction. The surgeon can reduce unwanted fat pockets in a less invasive way with the latest liposuction techniques.

Recovery and Risks

In most cases, the patient will be able to return to their normal activities or go back to work in about two to three weeks. However, strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and vigorous exercises should be avoided for at least four weeks. Risks can be minimized if the patient chooses an experienced mommy makeover surgeon and follows their instructions carefully from preparation to recovery stages.

Somewhere between conception and college, the child-rearing experience is guaranteed to provide at least three things: joy, chaos, and physical changes. Those physical changes can be gradual or sudden, and one of the most daunting is the onset of “mom boobs.” Mom boobs are exactly what they sound like — they’re what’s left after the careful and considerate act of pregnancy, childbirth, and getting through infancy. Many women simply don’t love putting their usually-deflated and softer boobs back into bathing suits come warmer weather.

“Most women note enlargement during pregnancy and nursing. After pregnancy most patients lose breast volume so their breasts become smaller and the skin looser,” says Dr. Christine Hamori, a board-certified plastic surgeon and the Director of the Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Spa in Duxbury, MA.

And while Dr. Hamori doesn’t believe there are any non-surgical ways to effectively combat saggy breast tissue, she does believe the mom boob look can be treated to restore a more youthful appearance and feel. Read more…

Plastic surgery for a mommy makeover is done to make a woman’s body shape look as close as possible to that before pregnancy and childbirth. This can consist of small procedures for tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and lift. Depending on the condition of their body women may have one or more plastic surgeries to improve their overall body shape. A growing number of women are undergoing these surgeries in Bethesda, MD as they see their peers undertaking them and are more conscious than previous generations about their overall appearance.

When women in Alexandria, VA undergo multiple pregnancies or large births for twins then it is difficult to regain old shape despite dieting and exercise as loose skin will not tighten up and breasts also lose shape. Ideally, candidates for mommy makeover surgery are women that have completed their childbearing as otherwise, the whole expense of surgery will become wasteful. Mommy makeovers cosmetic surgery procedure by Dr. Franklin D. Richards will include several procedures like breast augmentation or reduction followed by abdominoplasty or tummy to reduce lower abdominal skin. Liposuction is carried out in some cases where women have fat accumulated in the midsection and hips area in Chevy Chase, MD.

Procedures involved in mommy makeover plastic surgery

  1. Tummy Tuck – The pricing for the reduction of excess skin and fat in the stomach area or

tummy tuck procedure in Northern Virginia depends on the location and reputation of the plastic surgeon.  A tummy tuck procedure can range from a mini to full abdominoplasty depending on the presence of fat in the area and sagging skin. In a mini tummy tuck process a small incision is made on the lower section of the abdomen to cut off excess skin and the remaining skin is pulled tight and stitched together.

When liposuction is performed to remove excess fat from the waist and hip area along with tummy tuck for improving the overall appearance of the lower section of the body then it is referred to as full abdominoplasty in Rockville, MD and elsewhere.

  1. Breast Augmentation – This repair procedure elevates the nipple and areola so the breast looks more youthful and does not sag. For performing this procedure Dr. Dean Jabs, an experienced plastic surgeon makes incisions around the nipple and along the inframammary fold. The extent of incisions made by the doctor depends on the laxity of the skin and the extent of lift required by the Fairfax, VA patient. Sometimes women undergo breast augmentation procedures to restore the volume and contour of the breasts.

Risks of Mommy Makeover Plastic Surgery

As a mommy makeover requires several invasive and noninvasive procedures it involves the same amount of risk as any major operations in McLean, VA. These can be issues like bleeding, infection, fluid formation, and even delay in wound healing due to medical conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Before and after a mommy makeover plastic surgery every Bethesda, MD patient is given a detailed briefing about what exactly will be done and what can be expected after the surgery.  Doctors advise patients of mommy makeover plastic surgery to avoid tobacco and alcohol for several weeks before and after the surgery. This is done to reduce the risk of infection and also to speed up the healing process.

A mommy makeover is a cosmetic surgery procedure that combines two or more surgeries to correct the aesthetic issues that may arise after childbirth. Each patient may require a different combination of treatments, depending on their unique aesthetic needs. Therefore, the recovery in a mommy makeover will also vary from one patient to another.

Dr. Richards and Dr. Jabs are board-certified plastic surgeons operating out of offices in Bethesda, MD, and McLean, VA, who provide mommy makeover surgery. Patients in Fairfax, Alexandria, VA, Chevy Chase, Rockville, MD, and nearby areas have an opportunity to receive this surgery at their practice. During the initial consultation process, they will discuss the recovery aspects involved in a mommy makeover surgery.

Recovery in a Comprehensive Surgery

If the mommy makeover includes breast augmentation with lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction procedures, the recovery process is likely to be longer. Particularly, tummy tuck cosmetic surgery may require more time for recovery. Pain and discomfort in the first few days are expected and can be managed with pain medications under the supervision of the surgeon.

Some restrictions may be placed on moving and lifting of arms in case of breast augmentation and breast lift. The patient can walk and perform light activities in the first two weeks. Most patients will be able to go back to work in about 10 to 14 days. However, strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and vigorous exercises should be avoided for about four to six weeks.

Younger patients will be able to recover faster compared to older patients. Experienced plastic surgeons such as Dr. Jabs and Dr. Richards will provide detailed instructions to care for the wounds during the recovery period. Patients in Fairfax, Alexandria, VA, Chevy Chase, Rockville, MD, and other areas may visit them for a mommy makeover consultation.

Other Aspects of Recovery

Many women who choose to undergo a mommy makeover may have children around the age of two or three years. This can create a challenge during the recovery period. It is a prudent idea to get some help during the initial two weeks to a month if the kids are going to stay at home. Patients with a high social life can find it difficult to adjust to a situation where they are confined to home for several days.

Once the visible bruising and swelling begin to subside, the patient may wear make-up and covered clothing to make the appearance as discreet as possible while socializing. In any case, adequate rest is important for a safe and healthy recovery. Patients should make a busy schedule during the recovery period, and allow the wounds to heal properly.

During the first month after surgery, the patient should not lift more than five pounds of weight. Twisting motions should be avoided initially if a tummy tuck has been performed. Patients should keep extra hours for sleep, particularly in the initial period when they are on pain medications. Driving should be avoided for the first week and maybe started after the patient is off pain medications.
